Upcoming Family Law Skills Clinic!

Family Law Section

Patrick Songy

Skills Clinic – Discovery and Discovery Disputes – April 19, 2024 – 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Skykomish Room on the 1st floor of the Drewell Bldg. (Zoom and In Person) – This is the third session in our on-going Skills Clinic, which covers core family law skills. The purpose of these clinics is to teach practical, broadly applicable principles governing areas of family law, so that practitioners can quickly and accurately assess situations and act. If one of the Judges or Commissioners agrees to co-teach, I’ll let everyone know, but I’ve provided the materials to them and I will at least have their feedback and observations.

Meeting ID: 387 380 1676

This clinic will address

  • Discovery (strategy considerations for how much / what type),
  • How to work on discovery with your client,
  • What to delegate / what not to delegate to a paralegal
  • Discovery Objections and Applicable Case Law
  • Cr 26 Conferences
  • Discovery-Related Motion Practice

There will be written materials. The hope over the whole 12 month program is for participants to have the 12 months of outlines essentially turn into an easy “field manual” for the nuts and bolts of family law work in Snohomish County.

No April Zoom Only Lunch Meeting

UPDATE

May Meeting – Karen Halverson – Intersection of Criminal Law and Family Law – May 17, 2024 – 11:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Room 7A02 on the 7th floor of the Drewell Bldg.

This is our regular monthly meeting in May. Karen is a highly experienced criminal litigator and can provide valuable insight in the areas where family law and criminal law intersect, particularly where things like domestic violence are concerned.

Once we finalize the title of her presentation and content, I’ll send a Zoom Link, but I at least wanted people to save the date.

If you’ve not had the benefit of hearing Karen talk about criminal law, you won’t want to miss this.
